Introduction

One of the world’s oldest civilisations, Egypt emerged from the Nile Valley around 3,100 BC, historically.  Visit the iconic and legendary Sphinx in Giza, and witness the awe-inspiring enormity of the great pyramids.  Meander down the sphinx-lined entrance and bask in the grandeur of the Luxor Temple at twilight.   Photograph magnificent Abu Simbel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, carved out of a rock cliff during the reign of Ramses II.  Walk through the Valley of the Kings and visit the rock-hewn tomb of King Tut.   Take a 4-night cruise along the Nile aboard a luxurious ship and soak in magnificent river views from the comfort of your suite.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cairo

You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Cairo

This morning visit the Khan el Khalili Bazaar, one of the biggest and most colourful open-air markets in the Middle East. Also view the Citadel, and the Alabaster Mosque of Mohammed Ali. Later visit the Egyptian Museum to see the fabulous Tutankhamon exhibition and many treasures of the old and new kingdoms – the finest collection of Pharonic treasures and antiquities in the world. BL

Day 3: Cairo-Memphis-Sakkara-Sphinx & Pryamids

Full day Cairo sightseeing tour including Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt; Sakkara with its tombs of Old Kingdom royalty and nobility and the stepped Pyramid of Zoser, dating back to 2650 BC; visit of the tomb of the Great Pyramids, and Sphinx at Giza. BL

Optional:

Enjoy the Sound and Light show at the Pyramids.

Day 4: Cairo-Luxor

Mid morning transfer to Cairo airport for your flight to Luxor.  Overnight at one of the most charming hotels in Egypt (Winter Palace).  Visit the glorious Temples of Luxor and Karnak. B

Optional:

A highlight is the Sound and Light performance of the Temple of Luxor.

Day 5: Luxor

Embark on your cruise.  Explore the Valley of the Kings & Queens, one of the most important archaelogical sites in the world.  BLD

Note: Itinerary and sites may vary slightly according to the cruise of your choice.   Cruises are offered at 3 nights, 5 nights and 7 nights.

 

Day 6: Luxor-Esna

Sail to Esna this morning.   Free day to relax and enjoy the facilities on board including afternoon tea.  BLD

Day 7: Esna-Edfu-Kom Ombo

Cruise to Edfu and visit the well preserved temples of ancient Egypt – the Temple of Edfu where Hathor and Horus used to meet.  Continue to Kom Ombo.  Overnight Kom Ombo.  BLD

Day 8: Kom Ombo-Aswan

Visit Kom Ombo Temple which has a double sanctuary and is dedicated to two divinities: Haroeris (Horus the Elder) and Sobek (the Crocodile God).  Continue to Aswan and visit the magnificently engineered High Dam and the outstanding Obelisk.  See the legendary Temple of Philae.  BLD

Day 9: Aswan-Abu Simbel-Aswan

Disembark this morning after breakfast.  You will be met and transferred to Aswan airport for your flight to Abu Simbel.

Upon arrival visit Abu Simbel. The great temples of Abu-Simbel, the Pharaonic site with an inspiring history. Under the umbrella of the UNECSO the two great temples were saved from the waters of Lake Nasser the biggest man-made lake in the world. 

A massive complex guarded by four colossal statues of King Ramses II each more than 60 Feet high. Inside it, the walls of the two temples are covered with incredibly well preserved murals depicting scenes of Queen Nefertari and her Great King Ramses II while presenting the offerings to the goddesses and his great battles against his enemies with carvings of the first peace treaty in the history signed between the Egyptian and the Hittites about 1200 B.C. 

You will be transferred to Abu Simbel airport for your return flight to Aswan.  Overnight Aswan (B) 

Highly recommended accommodation:  The legendary Old Cataract Hotel which has hosted many legendary people such as Agatha Christie (who was inspired and wrote from the hotel), Winston Churchill and Lady Diana.

Day 10: Aswan-Cairo

Aswan was the country’s premier winter resort from 910 to 24 BC, offering natural beauty, a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere and a warm, dry climate.

You can enjoy a traditional sailing boat ride aboard a “felucca” around Elephantine Island or alternatively undertake a tour of the Old Cataract Hotel.

Fly to Cairo for your onward flight.
