Experience the Rich Culture and Mysterious History of Egypt

Celebrated history and ancient treasures—these are some of the things that come to mind when people think of Egypt. That said, there is more to this country than what you might expect. From the wide beaches featuring golden sands to the remarkable natural therapies, Egypt is indeed one of the most essential countries you should include on your bucket list.

As we all know, a trip to Egypt is always exciting because it is home to one of the oldest civilisations in the world. The Great Pyramids of Giza, the tombs and the statues never fail to pique the interest of renowned archaeologists. Of course, you do not have to be a scholarly historian to enjoy a vacation in Egypt. As long as you have a passport and a visa, you can contact Exotic Destinations to plan your trip!

Here are some of the most enjoyable activities you can expect from Egypt:

Travel Through Time in the Egyptian Museum

You don’t have to spend hours in your bat cave watching documentaries about Egyptian mummies and the treasures of Tutankhamun’s tomb! By visiting the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, you’ll get to experience a grand collection of artefacts. Curators estimate that there are about 12,000 items in this museum! It is so expansive that you might spend anywhere between two to three hours inside. You’ll enjoy the experience much more when you allow the museum’s official guide to share facts about the collection.

Of course, you shouldn’t miss the golden mask of Tutankhamun. Once you see it in person, you will undoubtedly believe that it is one of the greatest artistic achievements of Egypt. Witness a surreal experience by looking at the treasures that the Egyptian boy-king once possessed. It is a wonder how the tomb preserved and protected these items for thousands of years.

Have an Immersive Cultural Experience

Temples of Ramses and Nefertari

Alright, it may seem like a bit of a cliché, but having a camel ride in front of the pyramids is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Believe us—if riding a camel for at least once in your life is on your bucket list, then it is best done in Egypt. Sadly, a lot of the operators do not keep their camels in good condition. With Exotic Destinations however, you won’t have to worry about that. We only choose to work with partners who keep their camels healthy and well-fed. So, you can focus on having a pleasant time on a happy camel whilst gazing at the pyramids.

You can also visit the Khan el Khalili Bazaar, which is one of the largest and most colourful open-air markets in the Middle East. There are a variety of locally inspired treasures and trinkets you can find here. Take home beautiful gold antiques and artefacts, sparkling silverware, stained glass lamps, and handmade accessories. If you wish, you can even enjoy an immersive experience whilst wearing traditional clothes and learning to bake bread the Egyptian way.

Explore the Pyramids

Pyramids of Giza
Pyramids of Giza

The glorious Pyramids of Giza near Cairo remain among some of the greatest mysteries of the ancient Egyptian civilisation. Prepare to drop your jaws once you gain sight of the Great Pyramid of Khufu. Whilst you’re in Giza, you will also get to see the Sphinx. Egyptologists believe this to be made in the image of Pharaoh Khafre to guard the ruler’s pyramid. To this day, it remains a mystery as to how the Sphinx’s nose was broken.

You can see the Sphinx from two spots. However, most tourists prefer going to the side through a structure. Make sure you still have your tickets with you because the attendants will check them if you’ve paid the entrance fee to the pyramid complex. This angle will give you a good view of the side of the Sphinx. You should also watch out for the evening show at the pyramids. They have featured the same show for over many years. The experience is truly reminiscent of a James Bond movie.

Encounter the Grandeur of Karnak

The second most visited site in Egypt is Karnak. It is quite enormous considering about 30 pharaohs contributed to its structures. You will notice that some places have columns that are about three stories tall. These are around 3,200 years old! Indeed, you will be impressed by the grandeur of these ancient structures.

If you don’t pass out from the heat, you can spend all day walking around Karnak. Some of the notable features of this place include the avenue of ram-headed sphinxes, Hatsheput’s obelisk, and the giant scarab statue. Believe us when we say that you will be in awe when you see them. Whilst you’re there, ensure not to miss out on the Karnak Sound and Light Show. It illustrates the interesting history of ancient Thebes. You will also get to learn about some of the great Pharaohs’ achievements. Whilst you wander through the area, the pharaohs will rise to share their story. Experience goose bumps as you hear the haunting music that flows throughout the city.

Once the sun goes down, head over to Luxor Temple, which is exceptionally striking when seen lit at night. A lot of the features of this spot are similar to what you saw at the Karnak Temple. Be amazed at the Avenue of the Sphinxes and the massive pharaoh statues at the front of the temple.

Feel Like a Royal with the Nile River Cruise

Of course, your trip to Egypt will be incomplete without seeing the mighty Nile. There are floating nightclubs, restaurants and cruise boats that will give you a tour of the river. However, if you want an enriching and relaxing river experience, go onboard a felucca. As the sun sets, you will hear the call to prayer echoing around Cairo. Onboard a traditional sailing boat, you will feel the marvellous serenity that only the mighty Nile can give. The experience is remarkable, especially when you think that this is the same river that Cleopatra frequented many centuries ago.
