17 Days/16 Nights Tour

This journey takes you from the more populated valleys of Thimpu and Paro to the lesser visited Tongsa, Bhumtang in Central Bhutan and Mongar, Trashingang and Samdrup Jongkhar in the east. Winding mountain roads with staggering scenery, hilltop monasteries and wonderful history will fill your days. Bhutan is like nowhere else in the world. 


Day 1 : Kathmandu

On arrival at Kathmandu Airport you will be met with a floral welcome and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2 : Kathmandu

This morning you will enjoy a city tour of Kathmandu and then visit Swayambhunath, one of the oldest Buddhist stupas overlooking the entire Kathmandu Valley. In the afternoon, you will visit Hindu Temples and other impressive sites in Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Bhadgaon. B

Day 3 : Kathmandu – Paro 

The flight today takes you over the Great Himalayas and valleys of Bhutan. You will be greeted and transferred to your hotel.

Day 4 : Paro

Full day guided tour of Paro including the major sites of Tiger’s Nest and the National Museum.

Day 5 : Paro – Thimpu

Morning  visit to the Drukgyel Dzong and the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang. Drive to Thimpu (2 hrs) stopping briefly at the confluence of the Paro and Thimpu rivers and the 17th century Simtokha Dzong. On arrival in Thimpu enjoy a guided tour of the major sites including Trashichhodzong and Memorial Chorten.

 Day 6 : Thimpu – Punakha

Morning visit to the National liberary and the Textile and Folks Heritage Museum. Drive to Punakha ( 3 hrs) making  a brief stop at the Dochu la pass to admire the spectacular views and pray flags.

 Day 7 : Punakha – Gangtey

Before leaving Punahka, visit the major sites including the 17th century Punakha Dzong. Then drive to Gangtey (3 hrs) in the Phobjikha valley, one of the few glacial valleys in Bhutan. En route, visit Wangduephodrang. During the afternoon visit the Gangtey Monastery.

Day 8 : Gangtey – Trongsa

Enjoy bird watching in the Phobjikha valley before driving to Tongsa (4 ½ hrs) across the Pelela Pass 3300m. En route visit the Nepalese – style 18th century Chendbji Chorten. Rest of the day is at leisure.

 Day 9 : Trongsa – Bhumtang

This morning you will visit the Tongsa Dzong, the most impressive dzong, built in 1648 and the Ta Dzong before driving to Bumthang (3hrs).

Day 10 : Bhumtang

Full day tour of Bumthang including a visit to the sacred site of Kurje Lhakhang and the Jambey Lhakhang temple.

Day 11 : Bhumtang – Mongar

Drive eastward to Mongar (7 hrs), winding through rugged terrain and crossing the Thrumshingla pass. Gradually descent to Sengor. Visit Mongar Dzong.

Day 12 : Mongar – Trashigang 

You will be driven to Trashigang (3 hrs). This afternoon visit the Trashigang Dzong overhanging the Gamri River.

Day 13 : Trashigang 

Your full day excursion includes a visit to the temple of Gom Kora; Doksum village where you can see women busy weaving; a 15th century chain bridge and Trashiyangtse Dzong.

Day 14 : Trashigang – Samdrup Jongkhar 

On your way to Samdrup Jongkhar (6 hrs), you will drive past Sherybtse College and visit the Blind school and weaving centre at Khaling.

Day 15 : Samdrup Jonghar – Guwahati  

Today you will cross the border and enter India to stay one night at Guwahati (2 ½ hrs), the capital city of Assam. In the evening visit Kalakshetra, a multi –art complex.

Day 16 : Guwahati – Kolkota  

Fly to Kolkota. In the afternoon enjoy a guided tour of Kolkota’s major sites.

Day 17 : Depart Kolkota  

Free day for last minute shopping. This evening you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
