A 250-year-old Nanak Shahi haveli of Rai Bahadur Rattan Chand’s lineage nestles on almost an acre on the prestigious Mall Road in Amritsar. This small and charming 18th century colonial heritage mansion, is the first and only holistic spa resort in the northern plains of India. Operated by the SVAASA group of companies that has been established with the purpose of promoting self-preservation and health awareness through tourism and hospitality, this Heritage Spa Resort is its flagship project. The elegant heritage architecture of Ranjit’s Svaasa complex offers a beautiful view of foliage from its Silver Art restaurant, amidst the warmth of a fireplace to savour your meal. Having been host to royalty and eminent personalities since time immemorial, this haveli now shares its old world charm to all those visiting the Holy City of the Golden Temple. The fourth Sikh guru Ram Das founded Amritsar in 1577, and in the middle of the city is the Golden Temple, the Sikh community’s holiest shrine.
Restored & beautified by Rama Ranjit Mehra, the lady of the house, it offers a harmonious balance between the warm and familiar feelings of an old haveli and the luxury and serenity of a boutique spa. It features decadent arches, high ceilings,18-inch thick walls of Nanak-Shahi bricks, art deco inspired floorings from the 1930’s, antique furniture, regal tapestries, and a plethora of artifacts which lend traditional style to the contemporary services.
Rama, an interior architect and oil painter, and Vishhal Chand, a self taught artist with training from Central Saint Martins’, London, constantly adorn and play with the moods of Ranjit’s SVAASÁ. His handsome pieces from the ‘Swan Collection’ and the thereafter ‘Bull Collection’ hang across the haveli, with a few from his previous ‘Untitled Collection’ yet concurrent.
In the midst of the charming & noble brush strokes of its predecessors, every generation has added their personal flair to the haveli, bringing colour to a timeless canvas rich in emotions and beauty.
